THE WIZARD OF OZ - PLAYSCRIPT - ACT 8 - 2005-6

THE WIZARD OF OZ
PLAYSCRIPT 2005-2006
ACT 8

Now they are in the Emerald City again. In the Wizard´s room, waiting for the Wizard. The Little Green Man arrives.

LITTLE GREEN MAN: What can I do for you?

DOROTHY: We want to see the Wizard now, please.

The Little Green Man leaves the stage and after some time there is a voice.

WIZARD: I am the Wizard of Oz, who are you and what do you want?

All of them are looking around.

DOROTHY: Where are you?

WIZARD: I am everywhere, but you can´t see me. Now answer me - who are you and what do you want?

SCARECROW: We helped Dorothy kill the Witch of the West. You know what we want. I want my brains, you promised!

TIN MAN: Yes, and I want my heart. I´m not going to wait another minute.

LION: And I want to be brave. Or I´m going to eat you!

DOROTHY: And I want to go home to Kansas.

WIZARD: Is the Witch really dead?

DOROTHY: Yes, I threw a bucket of water over her and she disappeared. (they all start to laugh)

The Wizard appears on the stage.

DOROTHY: But, but ... the Wizard of Oz is a big head.

WIZARD: You are wrong. I am the Wizard,... well, I´m not a true wizard. Oh, I know a lot of tricks but I don´t know any true magic. You see, I´m from Kansas too. I went from town to town and did magic tricks. And I went up a big balloon. But one day the rope broke and the balloon blew away. Then I came down here, in the country of Oz.

THE TIN MAN: But then you lied to all these people.

WIZARD: No, I didn´t. The people saw my balloon and said: This man is a wizard, he comes out of the sky! They built this city for me and I called it The Emerald City.

SCARECROW: You are a very bad man. You made all these people work for you.

WIZARD: No, I´m a good man, but I was afraid of the two bad witches. Now they are both dead thanks to all of you, specially Dorothy. But I´m very sorry, I don´t know any true magic, I am a very bad Wizard, so I can´t help you.

SCARECROW: What about my brains? I want my brains.

WIZARD: You don´t need any brains. You understand things, you can think, you learn quickly. You´re very clever.

SCARECROW: I won´t go until I get my promised brains.

WIZARD: (Giving a deep breath) Okay then, but it´s difficult. This is very risky.

Next to them was a table. On the table was a bottle with BRAINS written on it. The Wizard carefully opens the Scarecrow´s head, then he takes the bottle.

WIZARD: Don´t move, I´m putting your brains in. There, now you are the cleverest scarecrow in Oz.

The Scarecrow was very happy.

SCARECROW: Yeppie, now I´ve got brains. I´m the happiest scarecrow in Oz.

THE TIN MAN: What about my heart? You promised me a heart.

WIZARD: You don´t need a heart. You laugh, you cry, you love, you feel sorry for people.

The Tin Man looked at him angrily and picked up his axe.

THE TIN MAN: I want my heart!

WIZARD: All right, please don´t hurt me. I will give you a heart. (He goes to the table and takes a red heart. He puts it on the Tin Man´s breast.) Wear this always.

The Tin Man was very happy.

THE TIN MAN: Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you!

LION: Now it´s my turn. I want to be brave.

WIZARD: But you are brave. You do a lot of brave things. (The Lion started to roar) No, no, don´t eat me. I´m going to make you brave. (The Wizard takes a bottle with BE BRAVE on it.) Drink this.

LION: (The Lion drinks) Yes, yes, I feel brave! (He roars) Very, very brave. Thank you!

WIZARD: You didn´t need any magic, but you´re happy now and that´s a good thing. Now Dorothy, it´s your turn now.

DOROTHY: Yes, you promised I could go back to Kansas with Toto.

WIZARD: Your red shoes are magic shoes, they can carry you home. Just close your eyes and say "East West - Home´s Best" and then jump.

DOROTHY: Oh, thank you!

Dorothy starts saying goodbye to her friends and kisses them one by one. Then she picks up Toto and closes her eyes.

DOROTHY: East West - Home´s Best (and she jumps)

Everybody disappears from the stage except Dorothy. There is a noise like a wind, and Dorothy starts going round and round...

THE WIZARD OF OZ - PLAYSCRIPT - ACT 7 - 2005-6

THE WIZARD OF OZ
PLAYSCRIPT 2005-2006
ACT 7
.
On the stage we can see the Witch of the West. She has a magic crystal ball that can see everything. She was angry.
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: I can see them coming! They are getting closer and closer! (She puts on her tall black hat and started shouting) Magic Monkeys - come!
.
The two magic monkeys appear immediately.
.
MONKEY 1: What do you want?
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: There are three people, a dog and a lion on my road. Kiss the people and the dog but bring the lion here to my house. (Laughing) He can work for me.
.
MONKEY 2: At once! (The leave very quickly)
.
The Witch leaves the stage and the group of friends arrive on the stage. Suddenly the two monkeys appear.
.
MONKEY 1: (Talking to the other monkey) Let´s break the Tim Man´s arms and legs! (They break the Tin Man´s arms and legs.)
.
TIN MAN: Ouch! My arms! ... My legs! ... That hurts!!
.
MONKEY 2: Now let´s take the straw out of the Scarecrow! (They take all the straw out of the Scarecrow)
.
SCARECROW: Hey! What are you doing?! That´s my straw! I need it!
.
MONKEY 1: Ha ha, that was good! Now let´s hit the girl! (They try to hit Dorothy but they can´t touch her or Toto because of the good Witch´s kiss)
.
MONKEY 2: What´s happening? I can´t touch her! This must be some kind of magic.
.
MONKEY 1: Yes, let´s leave her and the dog. Let´s take the Lion, the Witch wanted him alive. (They take the Lion and carry him to the Witch´s house)
.
None of them are violent and they have no time to react, they are very nervous and scared. And they try to help each other but they can´t. When the two monkeys leave they are all very sad. They help each other stand up and leave the stage.
.
When the monkeys appear in front of the Witch with the Lion, she is very angry with them.
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: Where are the rest? You fools! Where did you leave them? Bring them immediately!
.
The monkeys looked confused, they left the Lion and went immediately to get the rest. They took the rest in front of the witch.
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: (The Witch sees the kiss on Dorothy´s face and is afraid but she doesn´t say anything) You! Girl! You must work for me in my house now, ... all day and every day. And remember: I am watching you all the time. Now go and start cleaning!
.
The Magic Monkeys stay there and look down, a bit afraid of the Witch. The Witch starts walking from one place to another.
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: (speaking very angrily) I can´t touch that girl, the Good Witch´s kiss protects her. And I want her red shoes! But I can´t take them myself, the girl must take them off! You two, (looking at the two Monkeys) when you see the girl has taken off her shoes you tell me immediately!
.
The Witch leaves the stage. Then the two Monkeys do the same. Some time passes. The lights go off, then on. But the curtains don´t close. Dorothy appears on the stage. She is cleaning the house. She has a sweep in one hand and a bucket of water in the other. Dorothy leaves the bucket of water and starts to sweep, but one of her shoes falls off. The Witch, who was watching the girl behind a curtain, quickly takes the shoes.
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: This is my shoe now, ha ha!
.
DOROTHY: No it isn´t, give it back to me at once!
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: No! ha ha! Give me the other shoe!
.
Dorothy is trying to get the shoe back, but the witch doesn´t let her. Then Dorothy sees the bucket of water, takes it and throws it at the Witch.
.
WITCH OF THE WEST: Ajj, ajj, what did you do! You stupid girl! Help, help! The water is killing me! The ...water...is... (and she falls dead on the ground).
.
Dorothy was a bit confused but then she took the shoe and put it on.
.
DOROTHY: Now, how can I help my friends? Can I call the Magic Monkeys? (She picks up the Witch´s black hat and looks at it) Perhaps I must wear this magic hat when I speak. (She puts the hat on and calls) Magic Monkeys, come! (The Monkeys arrived in a second) Please, can you help my friends?
.
MONKEY 1: Of course, we must always help the wearer of the magic black hat.
.
MONKEY 2: Yes, you wear the black hat now so we must obey you. We will bring your friends to you if that´s what you want.
.
DOROTHY: Oh, yes please.
.
The Monkeys go out and bring their friends back.
.
LION: Free at last! Thank you!
.
The Monkeys oil the Tin Man with the oil-can.
.
TIN MAN: Thank you for oiling me! I feel wonderful. Thank you!
.
DOROTHY: Now we must go back to the Wizard of Oz. Magic Monkeys, take us to the Wizard of Oz.
.
SCARECROW: Don´t forget the magic black hat!
.
They leave the stage together, hand in hand.

THE WIZARD OF OZ
PLAYSCRIPT 2005-2006
ACT 6
.
They arrive together in the Emerald City. The bricks are green. Everything is green. They see a green door, and Dorothy knocks on the door. The door opens and a green little man appears.
.
LITTLE GREEN MAN: Good morning, what can I do for you?
.
DOROTHY: We want to see the Wizard, please.
.
LITTLE GREEN MAN: Nobody sees the Wizard. He is a very good man and a famous Wizard, but nobody can see him.
.
DOROTHY: (Looking confused at her friends, but then speaking with more determination) But we must see him. Please, ask him.
.
LITTLE GREEN MAN: All right, I can take you to his house, but first you must all put glasses on. (He opened a big box and took glasses for all of them, he gave one to each) You must wear your glasses all the time, everybody in the city must wear glasses, the Wizard says this.
.
So they all put their glasses on, also the green man and then he takes them through the Emerald City to the Wizard´s house.
.
LITTLE GREEN MAN: Wait here. (And he disappears. After a while he comes back) You can see the Wizard, but he only wants to see the little girl. (Looking at Dorothy) The Wizard is in there, he´s waiting for you, follow me.
.
Dorothy went in. On a green chair was a very very big head with no body, no arms or legs. Its mouth opened.
.
HEAD: I´m Oz. Who are you and what do you want?
.
DOROTHY: (bravely) I am Dorothy.
.
HEAD: Where did you get those red shoes?
.
DOROTHY: From the bad Witch of the East. My house fell on her and killed her.
.
HEAD: What is that thing on your face? (pointing at the kiss)
.
DOROTHY: A kiss. The good Witch of the North kissed me. I need help and she told me about you.
.
HEAD: And what do you want?
.
DOROTHY: I want to go home to Kansas but I don´t know the way. Please help me to get home.
.
HEAD: Well, perhaps I can help you, but first you must do something for me.
.
DOROTHY: What do you want me to do?
.
HEAD: Kill the bad Witch of the West.
.
DOROTHY: But I don´t want to kill anybody.
.
HEAD: You killed her sister. And you are wearing her shoes. Go now and kill the Witch of the West.
.
DOROTHY: (She started to cry) But how can I kill the Witch?
.
HEAD: The Tin Man, the Scarecrow and the Lion will help you. Don´t be afraid. Go now. Please, Little Green Man, take her out of the city.
.
LITTLE GREEN MAN: Yes, my Wizard, Immediately. (And he bows to the wizard)
.
Dorothy returned to her friends. She was a bit sad.
.
LITTLE GREEN MAN: Now you must convince your friends. Goodbye and good luck to you all!
.
DOROTHY: The Wizard says that we will all have what we want when we kill the Witch of the West.
.
TIN MAN: Who?
.
SCARECROW: We must find the Witch of the West and then we must kill her.
.
All of them looked at each other, they were worried and didn´t know what to do.
.
LION: But everybody is afraid of the Witch of the West, we have to be careful.
.
TIN MAN: Let´s go then.
.
They started walking, hand in hand.

ACT 5
.
They appear on the stage all of them together, looking all around them. Everything is green. Even the light is green. There is a house in front of them.
.
DOROTHY: Everything here is green. Perhaps we´re near the Emerald City. Toto and I are hungry, let´s stop at this house. (She knocks at the door)
.
A little woman all dressed up in green opens the door.
.
DOROTHY: Please, can we stay the night in your house?
.
The little woman looked at the lion, she looked scared.
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: But, but, I can´t let a lion into my house!
.
DOROTHY: The lion is my friend and he never hurts anybody.
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: All right, you can all come in.
.
There was a wonderful dinner on the table. Dorothy and Toto and the Lion ate, but the Tin Man and the Scarecrow didn´t eat anything.
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: You don´t eat anything? (Looking at the Tin Man and the Scarecrow)
.
TIN MAN AND SCARECROW: You are very kind but we never eat, thank you.
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: If you don´t eat, you will get ill. Eating is very important to be strong... That´s why I eat all the time, eating is my hobby! Where are you all going?
.
DOROTHY: To the Emerald City. We want to see the Wizard of Oz.
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: That is not easy. The Wizard never goes out of his house and nobody sees his face.
.
SCARECROW: Is the Wizard a man?
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: Nobody knows. He´s a wizard, so he can be a man, or an animal... or anything!
.
DOROTHY: How strange! But we need his help, so we must see him.
.
LITTLE GREEN WOMAN: It´s not far away, you will soon arrive in the Emerald city.
.
DOROTHY: Goodbye then, and thanks a lot for your hospitality.
.
Everybody says goodbye and thanks the little green woman, even the Lion.

THE WIZARD OF OZ - PLAYSCRIPT - ACT 4 - 2005-6

THE WIZARD OF OZ
PLAYSCRIPT 2005-2006
ACT 4
.
A stiff man with an axe in his hand is standing on the stage looking stiff. Dorothy and the Scarecrow appear.
.
DOROTHY: I need water. Toto and I are thirsty.
.
SCARECROW: I´m sorry for you. You need a lot of things. (Then thinking) But you have brains, and you can think and that´s wonderful.
.
Suddenly the Tin Man starts shouting.
.
TIN MAN: Help!
.
Dorothy and the Scarecrow start looking around, looking for someone and then see him, they are very surprised.
.
TIN MAN: Help!
.
DOROTHY: What can we do for you?
.
TIN MAN: I can´t move, please oil me. There´s an oil-can in my house.
.
Dorothy runs out of the stage and brings back the oil can. With the Scarecrow´s help she carefully oils the Tin Man. Slowly he begins to move, first his head, then his arms and legs.
.
TIN MAN: Thank you, I feel better now. I went out in the rain, you see, and water is very bad for a tin body. I was there for a long time and nobody came to help me.
.
DOROTHY: We heard you shout when we were trying to drink some water.
.
TIN MAN: Where are you going?
.
DOROTHY: We are going to the Emerald City to see the Wizard of Oz and ask him for help. I want to go back to Kansas and the Scarecrow wants some brains.
.
TIN MAN: (looking very interested) Can the Wizard give me a heart, do you think? I have no heart, so I can´t love, or feel ... I would very much like to have a heart.
.
SCARECROW: Come with us.
.
DOROTHY: Yes, and then you can ask the Wizard for help too.
.
So the three of them walk along the yellow brick road, happily arm in arm. After some time they start hearing noises from wild animals. They look at each other scared to death.
.
DOROTHY: How far is it to the Emerald City? Do you know, Tim Man?
.
TIN MAN: It´s a long way, I think, and we must be careful because...
.
Just then a lion suddenly runs from the trees into the road. It opens its mouth (It has long yellow teeth) and begins to run after Toto. Dorothy is afraid for Toto, she runs up to the lion and hits it on the nose with her bag.
.
DOROTHY: Don´t hurt my dog! He´s smaller than you!
.
LION: I didn´t hurt him! Don´t hit me again, please!
.
DOROTHY: Well, you´re afraid! (to Toto) Be quiet, Toto! He isn´t going to hurt you. He´s more afraid then you are. He´s just a big coward.
.
LION: (looks very miserable) It´s true. I am a coward. Everyone thinks lions are brave. I make a lot of noise, listen to me (he roars), but I´m not brave. I´m just a coward. (The lion begins to cry)
.
DOROTHY: Oh, poor Lion!
.
TIN MAN: Poor Lion, don´t cry, perhaps you are not so coward...
.
SCARECROW: I have an idea! Come with us to the Emerald City.
.
DOROTHY: Yes, well done Scarecrow! Come with us: I want to go back to Kansas, the Scarecrow wants some brains, and the Tin Man wants a heart. Perhaps the Wizard of Oz can make you brave.
.
LION: Oh, thank you. I would very much like to be brave.
.
DOROTHY: Let´s go then.
.
And they leave together happily, arm in arm. But after some time they are unhappy again.
.
DOROTHY: We have been walking for hours and hours and we are very tired. Is it still far away from the Emerald City?
.
SCARECROW: Well, we have to think that we are closer now than we were before. But I shouldn´t think, I have no brain.
.
DOROTHY: I´m hungry. What are we going to eat for dinner?
.
LION: I can kill an animal for you.
.
TIN MAN: Oh, no! Please, don´t kill anything. (he begins to cry) We don´t want to hurt any animals. I haven´t got a heart, but I feel sorry for them. (and he continues crying)
.
Dorothy quickly takes out the oil-can and oils his face.
.
DOROTHY: Don´t cry, you know water is bad for you.
.
They continue walking along the yellow road for some time. Soon they come to a river, a big one.
.
DOROTHY: Oh, what can we do now? We can´t jump across the river, it´s too big.
.
The Scarecrow thinks for a minute.
.
SCARECROW: Look! There is a tall tree next to the river. The Tin Man can cut it down with his axe and when the tree falls across the river we can walk across the tree.
.
TIN MAN: Very good for someone with straw in their head and not brains.
.
The Tin Man cuts down the tree with his axe and soon they are all across that river too. Very happily they leave the stage.
.

A Scarecrow is standing in the middle of the stage. Dorothy and the dog appear and go past him.
.
SCARECROW: Good day!
.
DOROTHY: (stops suddenly and looks at him) Oh, you can speak!
.
SCARECROW: Of course I can speak ... But I can´t move, up here on this pole ... I´d like to get down. Can you help me?
.
Carefully, Dorothy takes the Scarecrow off his pole.
.
SCARECROW: Thank you very much. (he moved his arms and legs and straw went everywhere) Who are you? And where are you going?
.
DOROTHY: I´m Dorothy and I´m going to the Emerald City. I want to go home to Kansas, but I don´t know the way. I´m going to ask the Wizard of Oz for help.
.
SCARECROW: Where is the Wizard of Oz? (looking at both sides of him) And who is the Wizard of Oz? I don´t know anything, you see, because I have no brains in my head (touching his head) only straw.
.
DOROTHY: Oh dear! I´m very sorry.
.
SCARECROW: I would very much like to have some brains. (thinking) Can I go to the Emerald City with you? Perhaps the Wizard of Oz can give me some brains. What do you think?
.
DOROTHY: I don´t know ... But yes!, please, come with me. He´s a famous wizard, so perhaps he can help you. (looking at the dog) Don´t be afraid of Toto, he never hurts people.
.
SCARECROW: Nothing can hurt me. I´m not afraid of anything ... Well, that´s not true. I am afraid of fire, of course. (and he laughs as if he had said a very funny joke).
.
Dorothy laughs too and they start to walk along the path. Dorothy takes out an apple.
.
DOROTHY: Would you like some, Scarecrow?
.
SCARECROW: No thank you. I don´t need to eat or drink. You can´t eat when you´re made of straw (and he starts laughing again as if he had said a very funny thing. Dorothy also laughs) ... (they continue walking while Dorothy bites the apple) Now tell me about your home.
.
DOROTHY: Oh, my home! I live in Kansas, a beautiful place ... although there are no trees ... but there´s Uncle Henry and Aunt Em ... although we also have cyclones...
.
SCARECROW: I don´t understand. How can you like Kansas if there are no trees, no green hills, no gardens?
.
DOROTHY: That´s because you have no brains. Kansas is my home. We say: 'East, West - Home´s Best' ... (looking sad) I want to go home.
.
And they leave the stage sadly arm in arm.
.

.
When Dorothy and Toto went out of the house they saw tall trees, beautiful flowers and little houses with blue doors.
.
DOROTHY: (Giving a cry) This isn´t Kansas, Toto!
.
Three very short men dressed in blue hats, coats and trousers, and a little old woman in a beautiful white dress appear.
.
DOROTHY: (Very surprised) And who are these people?
.
WOMAN: (Walking up to Dorothy) Thank you, thank you! Now the people are free!
.
3 MUNCHKINS: Yes, we are freee! Thank you!
.
DOROTHY: Why are you thanking me?
.
WOMAN: You killed the Witch of the East. She was a bad witch.
.
3 MUNCHKINS: Yes, a baaaad witch...
.
WOMAN: ...and her people, the Munchkins, were very afraid of her.
.
3 MUNCHKINS: Yes, veeeeery afraid...
.
WOMAN: (Looking angrily at the Munchkins because there were all the time repeating what she said) Now she´s dead,
.
3 MUNCHKINS; Yes, deeead...
.
WOMAN: (Looking very angrily at the Munchkins) and me and the Munchkins want to thank you...
.
3 MUNCHKINS: Yes, (suddenly interrupted by the witch).
.
WOMAN: (Looking very angrily at the Munchkins, interrupting and shouting at them) Shut up you three!
.
The little old woman and the three little men all smiled happily at Dorothy, but Dorothy still didn´t understand.
.
DOROTHY: But I didn´t kill anybody! (confused)
.
WOMAN: Your house fell on the witch (The little woman laughed) Look! You can see her feet!
.
Dorothy looked down. She could see two feet with red shoes under the house.
.
MUNCHKIN 1: Look! Her feet are disappearing in the hot sun! (pointing at the feet)
.
WOMAN: Good! (She picked up the shoes and gave them to Dorothy) They are your shoes now. You must wear them, because these shoes can sometimes do wonderful things. (Dorothy is holding the shoes all the time)
.
DOROTHY: Thank you, but who are you? Are you a Munchkin too?
.
WOMAN: No, but I´m their friend (the Munchkins smile at the witch, the witch smiles at them a bit forced) I´m the Witch of the North, and I came to see the dead Witch of the East. But don´t be afraid, I´m a good witch.
.
DOROTHY: But Aunt Em says witches don´t exist.
.
While the Witch is speaking the three Munchkins are all the time nodding, looking at each other and smiling at the witch.
.
WOMAN: Oh yes there are! Here in the country of Oz we have four witches. The witches of the North and the South are good witches, but those of the East and the West are bad witches. Now the witch of the East is dead so there is only one bad Witch left. We have a famous wizard too. We call him the Wizard of Oz, and he lives in Emerald City. How many witches and wizards do you have in your country?
.
DOROTHY: We don´t have any. (Thinking...) How can I get back to Kansas?
.
3 MUNCHKINS: Kansas?
.
WOMAN: Where is Kansas? I don´t know a country called Kansas, so I can´t tell you the way.
.
DOROTHY: (starting to cry) Oh dear, what can I do?
.
WOMAN: Please, don´t cry! Go and see the Wizard of Oz. He´s a good wizard, and perhaps he can help you. It´s a long way, and you must walk there. I can´t go with you, but I can give you a kiss. (The Witch kisses Dorothy) Now nothing can hurt you.
.
MUNCHKIN 2: (Pointing to the path) Look, there is the road to the Emerald City. It is made of yellow bricks.
.
MUNCHKIN 3: You can´t lose your way, just follow the yellow road!
.
3 MUNCHKINS: Goodbye!
.
WOMAN: Here you have a bag with some bread and some apples. Goodbye my dear child and remember to follow the yellow road.
.
Dorothy takes the bag the witch has just given her, she puts it around her shoulder. Then she puts on the red shoes.
.
DOROTHY: Come on, Toto! We´re going to find the Wizard of Oz.

.
Doroty lived in a small house in Kansas, with Uncle Henry, Aunt Em, and a little black dog called Toto. Aunt Em and Dorothy were sitting by the table.
.
AUNT EM: Dear Dorothy, our neighbour Miss Illness just told me the other day that Toto starts barking at her every time he sees her.
.
DOROTHY: Yes aunt, it´s true. But she is such a horrible person, it´s her fault...
.
AUNT EM: Stop, Dorothy. I don´t want you to talk about Miss Illness like that. Don´t do that again.
.
DOROTHY: But,...
.
AUNT EM: No buts, respect is very important Dorothy. Never forget that.
.
Uncle Henry appears. He looks up at the sky and runs quickly back into the house.
.
UNCLE HENRY: Emily, Emily! Dorothy, Dorothy! There´s a cyclone coming!
.
AUNT EM: (Looking worried at Uncle Henry and Dorothy). Oh, dear! Oh, dear! There was already a cyclone last year! Not again, my house, my furniture, my kitchen!
.
UNCLE HENRY: We must go down into the cellar! Forget about the house, forget about the furniture, forget about the kitchen. Let´s go! Dorothy, you take Toto!
.
Uncle Henry opens the door of the cellar and Dorothy tries to chase Toto but he escapes. Dorothy runs after him.
.
AUNT EM: (shouting at Dorothy) Quick! Leave the dog and come down into the cellar or it will be too late. (Aunt Em and Uncle Henry get into the cellar)
.
Dorothy picks up Toto and runs to the door of the cellar.
.
DOROTHY: (Talking to the dog) Ooooh! The cyclone is here! But we can´t do anything about it. Oh the wind ... hold on to me Toto, don´t escape now. The house is flying! (Dorothy looks out of the window and pointing out she says) Look, there´s a horse flying too! Where are we going Toto?
.
Suddenly there is total silence. The wind has stopped blowing.
.
DOROTHY: Everything is calm now, Toto. The wind has stopped blowing. Let´s open the door and go out.

INTRODUCTION

Lyman Frank Baum was born in 1856, just east of Syracuse in Chittenango, NY. He never used his first name since he preferred Frank. A rather sickly child who was both timid and shy, he kept to himself and made up imaginary places and playmates since he had to refrain from any kind of strenuous exercise due to his faulty, weak heart. Throughout Franks life, his health was a constant impediment, which became a looming presence and a major controlling factor. However, it never impeded his creativity, drive and talent.Throughout his life, Franks interests were varied and he did well at most things he attempted. His most influential interest was the theatre, which he developed in his teens and loved and supported throughout his life. Throughout his lifetime, Frank genuinely loved children and they adored him. He never stopped believing in the creative powers of the imagination. These children forecasted his future; they saw the genius of a storyteller he would become.

PLOT

Dorothy lives on a farm in Kansas until a cyclone arrives, and picks her, her house, and her dog up and deposits them in the land of Oz. Things in Oz are strange and beautiful, but Dorothy just wants to get back home. She's helped by the Good Witch of the North, but she's also in trouble with the Wicked Witch of the West, who seeks revenge for the death of the Wicked Witch of the East, for which she blames Dorothy. Wishing to return, she begins to travel to the Emerald City where a great wizard lives. On her way she meets a Scarecrow who needs a brain, a Tin Man who wants a heart, and a Cowardly Lion who desperately needs courage. They all hope the Wizard of Oz will help them, before the Wicked Witch of the West catches up with them.
‘The Wonderful Wizard of Oz’ published in 1900 became Baum´s most famous book for children.

WE HOPE YOU ENJOY IT!
